Coderstrust is unlocking the potential in Albanian Women

The Digital Jobs Albania initiative, implemented in partnership with the Government of Albania, World Bank, and EuroPartners Development, is an online training program to equip Albanian women, between the ages of 16 and 35, with in-demand technical skills like Web Development, Graphic Design, and Digital Marketing to excel in online freelance projects. The training program will be delivered through the Coderstrust Academy online learning platform.

In 2020, according to Labor Force Survey data, the participation of women in the labor force was 61.2% while the unemployment rate for women was 12.4% with an increase of 0.6 point percentage from the previous year showcasing a decline in the number of women in the workforce. With this in mind, Coderstrust is aiming to create new job opportunities for Albanian women to connect with the global economy by equipping them with the correct set of skills to pursue online freelancer jobs on websites such as Upwork, Fiverr, and People Per Hour. Upon successful completion of the training, students will receive a diploma from the program, will be promoted on the Digital Jobs Albania platform, and have the opportunity to be connected with some of the top Albanian ICT leaders.

Online freelancing work can play a crucial role in narrowing the gender pay gap (men earn 6.6% higher than women) and the labor force participation (18.8% of women are doing unpaid jobs at home while 20.9% are attending school). It also provides an added benefit of flexible work hours and the ability for women to work from their homes and gain financial independence. Moreover, women will learn how to work online in English with international clients and earn a living on their own terms.

With this initiative, Coderstrust is directly creating a positive social impact in Albania by working alongside the Albanian government and The World Bank. The partnership with the World Bank has opened up new pathways of working on women empowerment on a global scale with projects and alliances.

The initiative is a step forward for Coderstrust in Albania to help the country leverage the economic opportunities associated with digital freelancing services and unlock the potential in the target population.
